1. The Outsiders Project 

 

In this project for ECI 405 NC State College of Ed.  students are paired with 7th graders from Centenial Campus Middle School. As teachers we help guide the CCMS student's uderstanding of S.E. Hinton's novel teh Outsiders. Together with the students we develp and create music videos from songs written about the book which depict and describe the imporant literay elements from the book. 

 

This activity is collaborative in the sense that it requires teamwork from both we as students to plan and guide our middle school parterns to understading the novel as well as collaborative between us as the teachers and our middle school studetns to produce the video. Leadership is required first by those of us who have done TOP before in 306 to take the lead within our group  and then to lead our middle shcoolers through the produciton of our music video. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2. Video Book Talk on The Invention of Hugo Cabret  by David Selznik

 

In this project, also for ECI 405, we were to compare a novel to its film version. We were also to consider the film as a text such examining what film techniques/devices the filmakers use to create an effective "text" and aid the meanig-making process for the viewer. Our presentation was unique to the others for this assignment given our choice of novel. Hugo is unique as it blends long illustrated sections with sections of text with the intention of imitating a silent film. 

 

This project required the collaboration of my partner Danni and I. Her main responsibility was discussing the book while I was responsible for the film interpretaiton.
